  1. Allie,
Your room looks wonderful! I also saw your curriculum guide. Thanks for posting all this wonderful information! Do you read the books in their entirety first and then do sgm activities? Or do you break the books up...so for the eight weeks you have a book listed which ones are for the actual readings? Do you spend whole sessions just reading? Thanks!

    1. Yes, I read the book in its entirety first. This is so they don't lose the comprehension aspect. I read this suggestion in the book Creating Robust Vocabulary by Beck...she said to read the whole book before you start targeting Tier 2 vocabulary, so I assume this goes for everything else (i.e. irregular/regular past tense, syntax, etc.).

The first session of each book unit involves talking about the cover, discussing author's purpose, pre-teaching some Tier 3 vocabulary (words necessary to overall understanding of story), and then reading the whole story. The rest of the sessions are spent completing all of the other activities.

The Deep Episodic Analysis activity will require you to go back and pick out maybe a few "episodes" or passages to be used for further discussion and deeper understanding of the interconnection between story grammar elements. So the kids will technically be hearing the story/parts of the story many times.

      Hope this helps :)

  2. Hi! I love your ideas! I was unable to view your examples of transcriptions for the two Oral Retelling Samples. Is there a different way you can send it to me? thanks!
